For years now, I have been crushing on Pottery Barn’s Valentines Day chair backers. I however do not love the price! *yikes* However, I loved the idea of creating a Valentines Day Advent Hearts tradition for our family. Spending the beginning February telling my boys the reasons why I love them so much, seems like a wonderful – wholesome – and important tradition!
{ Valentines Day Advent Hearts! }
I got my act together and finally made them for my family – and I am so thrilled that I did. It has been an amazing tradition that really helps me focus a little bit extra on my loves – which in this technology age is always welcomed!
So thanks to a tutorial from The Crafting Chicks I successfully created them – in a single naptime!
I followed their tutorial but with a few minor changes. Mainly, to make it a lot easier for me. I get pretty darn frustrated with sewing, so anything to make it smoother I am all over it.
Here is how I made them:
- I attached some Heat N Bond to one side of the felt
- Placed the ribbon, and slowly ironed it in place. The Heat N Bond will adhered the felt pieces together with the ribbon inside.
- Once it was all adhered I stitched around the heart, to make it look much more finished.
- If you are a decent sewer, you will not need the Heat N’ Bond
- For the names I used my Silhouette Portrait machine along with the White Flocked Heat Transfer. The font I used was: Calamity Jane NF
Overall I am so thrilled with how this project turned out.
Valentines Day Advent Hearts, How it Works:
Every morning (starting February 1st) I will write something I love about each one of my boys, on a heart and place it inside their felt heart envelope. Along with the little note of love, I place a small treat or trinket in the heart.
I will also tape their hearts on the boys bedroom doors. So all-in-all they will each have 14 things we love about him, taped all over their door!
As for the trinkets, a few of the items I am thinking about putting in their Felt Heart Envelope are:
- Hershey Kiss
- Sticker
- Dollar store booklets
- Candy hearts
Pretty much anything that is cheap and in the valentines department of Wal-mart. Or comes in party packs!
So tell me, do you have any Valentines Day traditions? I am HUGE a sucker for any sort of tradition and would LOVE to know yours!!
