Homemade Bath Paint with Shaving Cream {So Easy!}

If you scroll down, you’ll see the insanely easy recipe I used to create Homemade non-toxic shaving cream bath paint for my son. Using, paintbrushes, or using the bath paint as a replacement for finger paints is sure to bring your kiddo tons of fun!

While at my baby shower for Greyson, guests were asked to give me one piece of advice. I, of course, got the typical “Sleep now…. because you’ll never sleep again.” “Sleep when the baby sleeps,” “Don’t forget about your husband once the baby arrives…” and so on.

However, one piece of advice that stood out and has stuck with me came from my grandmother. She told me that when all else fails, give them a bubble bath!

Meaning, when you are too tired to play another round of matchbox car smashing, or he is grumpy, sensitive, and overall difficult…, and they have been fed, napped, and are still unhappy – Put them in a bubble bath! Let me tell ya, she was right! There is nothing like a bubble bath to lift a child’s mood!

This past week has tested my patience and Greyson’s imagination like never before. The weather here in Western New York has been as low as -35, and has reached a high of 6 degrees! We are now going on week THREE of these freezing temperatures! It is way too cold to go outside for anything more than running to a car, and even then the car won’t start half the time. But, to put the cherry on top of my frozen ice cream cake, Greyson came down with croup last Monday. He was diagnosed after Scott took him to the ER at 5 in the morning, with labored breathing. So, even if we could get the car started, we could not actually go anywhere!

We started running out of activities, and even Greyson was saying he did not want to play another game of sequence or go-fish. Related: Check out my favorite games to play with your child!  So I took my grandmother’s advice and got the bath running. I decided to make it more fun than the standard bubble bath. To do this, I put in extra bubbles, and in less than 5 minutes, I had whipped up some homemade bathtub paint, using just shaving cream and food coloring! Note: I did use non-toxic shaving cream since that is what we already had.

It was SO easy to make this Homemade Bath Paint! (Literally less than 5 minutes), and Greyson played in the bathtub for over an hour! I actually had to freshen up the water – since it was starting to get chilly.

Non-Toxic Homemade Bath Paint Recipe:

1. Grab a cupcake pan. I love this sized one for making the bathtub paints!
2. Fill each circle with shaving cream.
3. Put a few drops of food coloring on top of the shaving cream mounds. Note: I did not have any staining in my bathtub using this homemade bathtub paint recipe – BUT if you are worried about it, instead of using food coloring, grab some washable paints, from your kid’s craft closet!
   1.  I used three different types of food coloring.
      • Regular
      • Neon
      • Gel
4. Mix the shaving cream and food coloring together (I used the back of these paintbrushes) However, these would be a really fun addition not only to the homemade bath paint but overall in your craft closet! 
5. Let them have fun in the tub! Greyson actually used paintbrushes to paint the bathtub and bubbles.

*The food coloring did not stain my tub at all. Though, I made sure to clean the bathtub as soon as he was done. I am not sure if it would stain if you left it sitting on the tub /tile /walls.

This was such a lifesaver last week!
