I have to keep telling myself that “Every little bit counts” The upstairs hallway is not even close to where I hope it ends up. But it has come a long way from the day we moved in!
Remember what it looked like? No? well here you go:
Yep complete with dark, dingy wallpaper and even some cobwebs! delightful.
And this is what it looks like at this very moment:
It is not where it needs to be, but it is getting there!! Last Thursday I got the walls to a point where they could finally be painted! It took a lot of sanding, mudding, and drywall fixing to get here. But it feels so much fresher and open and calming, compared to what it was! I painted them Benjamin Moore: Gray Owl. The color is a bit soft up on the walls compared to the color on the swatch but I really like it.
I decided that instead of dishing out some more cash to replace the light right away, I decided to try and give the existing one a mini makeover. I took the light down, and spray painted it a brushed nickel. I think it makes a big difference. At the very least it no longer draws you eye towards the ceiling and that dark brown light. I have to make a run to Home Depot and get a new cover for it. The old waffle one broke when we tried to put it back up….darn…
I am thinking a nice frosted piece would be better.
Here is some side by side action:
*I have some art going up in the big brown frame…I just have to create it*
See the frame hanging on the wall in the before picture? all the way on the left? Yeah, that got a mini makeover too on Thursday. I took the frame down, spray painted it white, I also spray painted the blue/green mat, and flower heart picture. While that was drying I got my Photoshop on and my scrapbook paper out, and in a few short minutes I created this:
It no sits on the wall between the office / guest room and the second guestroom:
There is still a list I need to do in order to fully finish up here:
- Second coat of paint
- More- lots more caulking
- Paint all the trim a fresh & bright white
- Create some art for the walls
But I am very happy with the progress so far. I will pick up with the hallway a little tonight (Some more caulking) and then jump back in with painting once we get home from Phoenix next week!
