I have shared a ton of math printables on this site. Everything from learning numbers with Lego Duplos, there are my really popular All About Numbers sheets, as well as my simple subtraction and easy addition pages. Actually if you would like to see ALL of my math pages make sure you visit my Preschool Math page.

The freebie that I am sharing with you today, are a level beyond anything I have shared to date. These are geared more toward late preschool to 1st grade!

Addition Word Problems! These awesome sheets are perfect for kids in late Pre-K up to 1st grade. I LOVE the multiple ways for kids to solve the question and to double check their answers. Such a great resource!

I have started to introduce Greyson to word problems. There is a lot that goes into a child being able to solve a word problem. They have to have a decent level of reading comprehension – in order to mentally sort through the information they need to solve the problem and what information is just “filler”. <– and that is just one skill that they will need to have!

In this download I am including 12 free Addition Word Problem pages.

How It Works-

  • Read the short word problem to your child. You may need to read it twice – to ensure they fully understand what you are asking…. especially if this is one of the first times they are solving a word problem.
  • Have them draw a picture of the word problem
  • Use the number line as another way to solve the problem AND as a way to double check their answer
  • Write the math equation
  • Finally in the dotted circle have your child / student write their final answer!

I love that these sheets have multiple ways for the kids to find the answer to the word problem (Drawing and the number line). It is a great way for them to think about how to solve a word problem – and it shows them that there is more than one way to get to the right answer! Important! Don’t be afraid to break out some of your math manipulative’s! If they are struggling or becoming frustrated try another method to teach the word problem! Once they find the answer – have them go back to the page to complete the drawing, number line, equation and final answer! Our two favorite math manipulative’s are definitely the snap cubes and counting bears! Hope you and your kiddos love them! Make sure you check back later this week for some SUBTRACTION Word Problem sheets! If you missed the download link above, don’t worry! ; ) Just CLICK HERE to download your free pages!!
