1st Day of Preschool

So, it happened. Despite all of my attempts to freeze time, Greyson has grown up enough to head to preschool.

He started this morning. He was there only from 8:30 – 11:15 but it seemed like a week and a half to me. I spent the entire time thinking about/praying/hoping with all of my might that he was having the time of his life! Thankfully, he really enjoyed it.

This morning he told Scott and I *again* that he was “Excited, but just a little bit scared”.

We arrived at the preschool a few minutes before the doors opened. We waited together while the other kids and their parents arrived. Greyson spent this time sitting on my lap, taking in the sights and sounds. He is a bit tentative when things are new. Maybe even a little unsure of himself, which always hurts my heart a little. I worry that I have not “built him up enough” or I wonder why he is not more confident. Anyway, when the doors opened most of the kids ran inside all excited. Greyson asked me if it was okay for him to go in too. I told him of course and off he jogged into the room; “excited, but just a little scared”

I gave him a minute and let him hang up his pirate backpack before I peaked around the corner to make sure just one last time that he looked okay. I also wanted to give the room and teachers a once over, for the millionth time. I told him I had to leave now so he ran over and gave me a huge hug and a kiss and made me promise that I would be back to pick him up in a little bit. I promised for the millionth time, and that was all he needed. He ran over to the other kids who were already working on their puzzles, and began his.

I debated staying in the parking lot for the whole time just in case, but decided against it and drove the 15 minutes back home. I spent the next 2 hours looking at the clock every 5 minutes and checking my phone every 43 seconds; to make sure they had not contacted me for any number of terrifying reasons I had pictured in my mind. They never did. 🙂

I arrived early to pick him up. Once they opened the doors they call the children one at a time to come meet their parents. When Greyson came around the corner his face lit up, and immediately started telling me all of the awesome things they did today.  On the way to the car he was holding my hand and mid sentence he stopped talking, raised my hand to his mouth and gave it a kiss telling me “I missed you”. I swear my heart nearly lept out of my chest. He is just a sweet boy!

BEFORE we could go off to preschool this morning, we had to have a little photo-shoot though! Thanks to all of your votes, I had a wonderful First day of preschool sign for him to hold up.
