A few posts ago I told you about Greyson’s new obsession with spelling. He is constantly asking how to spell words, and stringing random letters together and then asking what he just spelled.

Like This:
Greyson- E-O-O-O-O-P-S-D “What’s that spell?

So I was thrilled when is Grandmother grabbed Melissa and Doug’s See and Spell puzzles for Christmas.

They were an instant hit. Greyson loves to spell, and and he loves puzzles. What could be better **just wait and I will tell you* 🙂

If you look at the image above you will see that there is a little compartment on the left for all the letters of the alphabet. It is great for storage, but not so great for a 3-year old trying to find the correct letter. They are all just mixed together, and even though I think Greyson has a decent attention span… the fact that the letters are hard to find was ticking him off.

Last night he wanted to play with the puzzles so I lined up all the letters in a row for him. This was much better for him trying to find the puzzle pieces. AND he would sing the alphabet to try and locate the correct piece Win-WIn.

I feel I should mention that he does not sing the alphabet correctly. It goes a little something like this:
A-B-C-F-G-J-K-L-M-N-O-O-O-P-Q-R-S-T-U-B-W-X-Y-AND Z next time wont you sing me AGAIN!!!!
The only problem with my little solution was that Greyson did not know where to put the letters back in the alphabet line. So I made a little Alphabet Track/ruler/line…thingy.
This way the letters are laid out right in front of him, AND they are displayed in the little square so he know where it belongs when he moves onto the next puzzle.
Greyson actually placed all of the letters this morning. It took him a little while but her got them all! *I went through and stacked them neatly. 😉
As I quickly finish up this post, I can hear him in the adjacent room working at his table spelling. I love it.
I have made a bunch of sets for you guys, so you can pick whatever color grid you’d prefer.
I printed out the teal set for Greyson, cut the letters into strips. (a-d) (e-h) (i-l) (m-p) (q-t) (u-x) (y-z) I laminated the strips just for durability sake and now the go right in the See and Spell puzzle box.
You can download your set here:
GREEN – PINK – YELLOW – TEAL

I would love to know if these help your little one!
