On Monday I shared with you some fun Preschool Math Worksheets.  Today I am back sharing with you a super simple Preschool Math Game printable to go along with a card game, that I am sure all of you know!

Growing up, we called it “war” but for some reason I don’t like how it sounds when Greyson says “Mommy!! Lets play war!” So until I have a better name we just say card game… I would LOVE some suggestions on what to rename this card game.

Just grab a deck of cards, and remove the Aces, Kings, Queens, Jacks and Jokers. So we are just left with numbers 2-10. We both get the same number of cards.

Place them face down in front of you, and at the same-time you draw the top card and place in on the table in front of you. The higher (Greater-than) number wins that round. The goal is to get ALL of the cards. Once you’ve gone through your pile, you just start over with the cards you’ve won.

If / when you both play the same number you have to put three cards face down from you pile, and flip the fourth card over…who ever has the higher number wins that round (A total of 10 cards!)

You can play the game just like that, and all you need is a deck of cards. But you know me, I cannot leave well enough alone! I made this card “mat” for us when we play.

The addition of the Preschool Math Game – MAT, will help

  1. To stop your child from tossing the cards all over the table, since they have a specific rectangle to place the card in.
  2. With the cards placed nicely next to each-other it helps them to see what the numbers are, and to determine which one is larger; much easier than just having them tossed around the table
  3. Along the top of the mat, it shows numbers 2-10 in sizes that gradually get larger
    1. Visually showing the larger numbers VS. the smaller numbers
