Preschool Activities – Finish the Pattern

Continuing with my “fall theme” today we are going to focus on patterns. Last week (and on Monday) I shared some missing letter and missing number worksheets for your preschooler to work on.

Today I am sharing  some worksheets to help with pattern recognition. These finish the pattern worksheets are a similar concept to the missing letter and number worksheets in that your preschooler will have to identify what goes in the blank (?) boxes. However, instead of following the alphabet or number sequence they will have to recognize the pattern on the sheet and then complete it.

I’ve included two different “levels”  in this download. Two pages have only one missing image at the end of the pattern sequence. While the other pages have two missing images at the end of the pattern sequence.

How to complete these worksheets:

  • Cut out the shapes on the last page (the ones with a dotted line around them) for your preschooler
  • Have your preschooler identify the pattern and glue on the correct image to finish the pattern

Working on pattern recognition is a very important math concept for your preschooler to begin to master. Here is a short blurb from education.com about the importance of pattern recognition and your preschooler.

“Patterns are all around us, from the clothing we wear to the repeating patterns found in nature and everyday routine. Patterning is also a basic math skill upon which many mathematical concepts are based. Times tables, addition and skip counting all require an understanding of and proficiency in patterning. In preschool, identifying and creating patterns is just the beginning of the mastery of life-long mathematical skills”

      Thank you!

I certainly do love color, especially when dealing with preschoolers. Color makes everything more fun! 🙂
