Dining Room – Phase Two

So the last time I left off I was cursing because of my dining room. I have completed phase two a while ago, but I am just getting around to posting about it.
I removed all of the wallpaper, filled the groves of the paneling, primed and then painted the walls. I also refinished the dresser (turned dining room hutch), and the dining room chairs. We also found some curtains that both Scott and I loved so we hung those.
We still have a long ways to go before it is complete but it is looking much better these days!!
Here is what we are working with now:

As you can see I still need to let the hem out of the curtains so they reach the floor. That will be an easy fix, I am just waiting for a rainy day. Which has been really hard to come by— we are in the middle of a bit of a dry spell here in Western NY.
We went with a very light gray for the wall color. I still need to put the knobs / find the knobs for our double hung curtain rod. We also need to get a new light…. the one we currently have is hideous!

My wall of emptiness….
Yes I know I am missing a drawer… that one did not come out that well and has to be restriped and restained. I plan on doing it when I refinish the table. But for now it is a HUGE upgrade from what it once was. We spent a few bucks and replaced the knobs, I think they make a world of difference.
For those wondering I used Minwax Polystain to refinish the hutch. I LOVE the product. It is very easy to work with and we both think the end result looks fantastic.
I would like to build a little something for Lola’s dog dishes. I am thinking of something like this:
diy-elevated-pet-bowl-stand-cg
Which you can find HERE along with an awesome tutorial on how you can also make one.
I also whipped up something  quick in Photoshop to show you what I am thinking for over the hutch.

Mirror and shelve
I really want to find a fun mirror that I can paint a bold and beautiful color. I also plan on adding some shelving to balance out the wall. I think they would be great to put of hang some fun coffee mugs. I will also probably add a basket to put the K-Cups into. I do not like the rotating display of coffee cups.
So left we have:

  1. New Light
  2. New Rug
  3. Dog Bowl Stand
  4. Refinish Table
  5. Find Mirror
  6. Build and hand Shelves
  7. Locate Curtain Rod Knobs
  8. Let out the hems of the curtains

That’s not too bad…. At least it is better than what it was a month ago!
What have you been working on around your home, lately?? Anyone else in the middle of a drought, or maybe you’d love the rain to stop?
