Another closet transformation

Happy Labor Day, everyone! I hope you are all enjoying this day with your loved ones. Hopefully you are having much nicer weather then we are here!

Anyway, I thought I would stop in and show you our entryway closet makeover I did two weeks ago. I was so happy with Greyson’s Craft Closet, that I felt (and still feel) motivated to tackle a other closets in our home!

To be honest, I am embarrassed to show these before photos. We moved into the house in January 2012 and I pretty much threw items into the closet and it stayed that way until now.

It is rather large, and came with the shelves…but it was ugly! The walls are dinged, marked, and completely scuffed up! There was this hardened yellow sludge that we inherited from the previous owners. Both myself and my mother could not clean that gunk off.

So here she is…a diamond in the rough.

Before 1

Looking in the closet to the left you have this hot mess:

And if you look to the right you see this disaster:

And then if the clutter is not bad enough. We have the Dings, sludge and NO baseboard!

But now, she is a sight! I started by emptying out the entire closet. Including the shelving system. I then cleaned the walls. Patched the dings and some random nail holes.

Once it was clean I got my paint on. I used a quart of paint from Sherwin Williams. It is a very neutral tan*ish* color. I also primed (twice) the wooden shelves and painted them (three times) bright white. Just doing that it made a world of difference. BUT when I added the 1×3 white baseboard? That is when I started to pat myself of the back and do a little happy dance!

See!?

Paint and baseboard

Once the paint was completely dry, I put the shelving system back in and started to load the closet back up. I did not put everything back. About 25% found new homes.

I am pretty sure it is not normal to be this excited over a closet, but it just makes me smile from ear-to-ear! I love how clean, crisp and organized it is.

I added a bowl for my kitchen-aid attachments, a canvas bag (it is actually a laundry tote) for all of Greyson’s pool gear, and a wire basket for our cookie cutters.

Once the snow starts falling I will switch out the pool gear for snow gear. Sad smile

So at this point I called it done. It has been two weeks and I still love the space but I kept getting the feeling that something was missing. I thought it could use some art…a little more color.

So when I came across a small peacock picture in Bed bath and beyond for 7 bucks I grabbed two. Peacock are my favorite animal of all time. I threw this on the wall above the vacuum cleaner and I adore how it looks.

I am also working on labels for the 4 blue bins. They are home to our cough and cold medicine, first aid medicine, extra toiletries, and shoe care/polish. I will post a photo on Facebook and or Instagram this week of the finished bins – so be sure to follow along!

So please tell me I am not the only person who gets crazy happy over a clean and organized closet! My husband thinks I am a little crazy.
