This morning I decided to do a year of saving (a little bit each week) to use for whatever we want next year. We put money each month into a savings account for emergencies, but it just sits there. I’ve decided I want to have a little savings account to do something fun with.

Maybe we will cash it out early if we decide to take Greyson to Disney for his birthday this year. It would give us some spending money and a cushion.

I am sure you have all seen either on Facebook or Pinterest the 52-week spending challenge. I like the concept, but I do not like that the amount increases each week and is the most expensive during the Holidays. *Nonsense!* I also do not like that the amount changes. I like the idea of some consistency. I chose to just do $25.00 a week. It is not too high, but it is also *enough* to actually save up to some decent moolah! At the end of 52 weeks you’ll have at least $1,300!

Just print this out and add it to your Home Management Bundle!
I have added a section after week 52 for bonus money. If you come across some extra cash and decided to add it to this savings account go ahead and write it in here.
Our bank allows us to have as many different savings accounts as we’d like at no extra charge. I have one account that has $40.00 sitting in it. We used that specific account this past year to save up for a large purchase. The item ended up being 40.00 LESS than we anticipated. So that 40 bucks has just been sitting there. I am going to keep it in there, and continue to add the 25.00 a week to that account. So I will write in $40.00 on the first line of Bonus Amount Saved.
My plan is to log into our bank every Friday and do a transfer of funds from the checking account to this particular savings account.
So, I hope you will join me for a year of savings! I’d also LOVE to know what you are savings for. It can be anything. To go on vacation, an emergency fund, to pay off a debt, a down payment on car, etc.
You can also join us over here on FACEBOOK as we encourage one another throughout the year. Heck, I can even set reminders to post to Facebook on Friday morning to remind us to transfer our 25.00 bucks.

I too like the idea of saving something every week – but didn’t like the idea of increasing or that the largest amount you were suppose to save was during the holidays also – not going to happen. This plan just might work (as the extra savings account and not the one for emergency’s). I’ll try to do it.

i just bought your workbook bc it is AH-MAZ-ING! it’s what i conceptually have been trying to do for the past 3 years and this was the cheapest than any other bloggers! so thank you! i am literally sitting at home right now filling in each page and i didn’t understand what this year of saving was all about, then i noticed you don’t have a category for “savings” in your “balanced budget” and i already direct 10% of my paycheck to a hidden account i cant see. i think each week i’m going to replace the amounts on your yr of savings with that 10% so i can find more motivation and encouragement thru this process! that account will hopefully help me buy a home of my own soon! love your blog!

[…] If you do not get the bonus paycheck at Christmas time, or it is already allotted for you need to be planning much earlier. I suggest using this method! […]
