It is mid July so that means it is time for me to plan for our upcoming year — education wise. Greyson is currently 3.5 years old; he will be 4 on Halloween. So far, we have been plugging away at our goals listed in last years Preschool Workbook. However, he is now a year older, and his interest level has changed in all areas. So here are our new goals in three specific areas:

Literacy Goals

  1. Increase vocabulary.
  2. Continue working on letter sounds. Beginning word sounds  – ending word sounds.
    1. Greyson really enjoys playing with Hot Dots Jr. Cards – Beginning Phonics Cards
  3. Site Words / reading. Recently Greyson has started taking a huge interest in knowing what the words are in his books, on signs, every label…etc. He is still only 3.5 so I am not expecting him to read, but we can start the introduction.
    1. I plan on using 1+1+1’s You can Read Site Words
    2. Read It, Create It, Write It Game – **Coming Soon!
  4. Introduce Greyson to a secondary language. *Likely Spanish

Math Goals

  1. Continue counting. Greyson can count to 20, and recognize numbers 1-20. I plan on increasing this…I would be THRILLED if we made it to 50.
  2. Skip counting
  3. Addition and Subtraction (1-10)
    1. Math Mat **Coming Soon!
  4. Shapes! Increase the number of shapes Greyson is able to recognize

Writing Goals

  1. Continue working on correct sizing, and mastering each letter.
  2. Work on better pencil grip- Greyson really struggles with this!

I’m Back!
Reviewing Shapes and Sorting with Stickers!

Hi there. I just found your website and I am so encouraged and impressed! Thank you for sharing your time with us other moms. I just wanted to mention an idea for helping your son with holding his pencil. When I was young, my mom let us use these pencil grips to help with correct finger position. My brother found them online (brand:Stetro) and now I have a couple that my son uses (he’ll be 4 in October, as well!). They seem to work for him. He never complains about putting his fingers in the correct places. Just an idea. Thank again for all the great preschool resources. And congratulations on your expanding family. 🙂

I have been looking for those pencil grips…but have not had any luck! I really hoped that they would be all over with the back to school supplies. I will totally be ordering them!! Hopefully, they help Greyson.

      xo,
      Lindsay
