Part of my new morning routine is to make Greyson a lunch to take to school. At 6:30 in the morning, I am all about making sure I have the items I need – that I know where they are – and that they are easy for me to get to.
So my simple solution for packing his lunch everyday – was to organize a drawer in our dining room (right next to my tiny kitchen) to keep all of the essential items for his lunch-pail.
I asked some “seasoned’ moms what they thought were the best lunchbox containers. The Sistema lunch containers came highly recommended. I went with those, because 1) they were so darn affordable and 2) They fit nicely in his ninja turtle lunch-pail! 🙂
After using these and knowing right away that I loved them I bought duplicates. This way if I forget to run the dishwasher the night before we are not rushing around trying to wash / dry and pack his lunch. There are plenty of containers dedicated solely to his lunches on hand.
When I shared my 50 Lunchbox Jokes and Fun Facts I said that I wanted to have some fun surprises for Greyson so he knew that in the middle of the day I was thinking about him. So for the older children we have the jokes – but for him I give him a sticker – and a “doodle” on a post-it note.
I am one of the worst drawers in the history of the world – so to make a decent doodle it takes some effort. So some days it is a simple heart, but it still means a lot to him! When Scott has the time at night, he will make a drawing for the following day. Scott is one of the best doodlers in the history of the world. 🙂 So Greyson can always tell who drew him his picture for the day.
seriously – I had to google how to draw an ice cream cone this morning so I could make his “doodle” … I am that bad!
Also in the drawer you’ll find these transportation themed bento box picks. I use these to roll-up some lunch meat and cheese, or to adorn his grapes or strawberries.
In the drawer I also have
- Napkins
- Spoon
- Fork
- Crayons – For the doodles
- His pre-cut (I cut them apart) stickers
- Stack of post-it notes
This way everything I need (besides the food) is all in one space. It makes packing his lunches so much easier / quicker. Taking just 10 minutes to throw some pretty wrapping paper on the bottom of the drawer, and then grabbing some containers to organize and store the supplies has made a tremendous impact on our mornings! It makes them easier – and I enjoy working with a beautifully organized drawer!
