Keeping a weather journal has many advantages for your little one(s). It goes beyond the obvious educational components (Counting – days of the week – math – months of the year – graphing – sorting – and tracking). It also teaches them responsibility by having to complete their daily weather tracking task, and a self of accomplishment that beats all the rest!
Having a weather journal for your kiddos can fit seamlessly into your daily routine. I have found that having it completed during breakfast in the morning, works best. It is the one time that we are guaranteed to be home every day, and it is not something that has to be done at the same-time everyday!
Weather Journal – How It Works:
I love that this weather journal is so easily adaptable for each child. It works for kids aged 3 and up. **I would say that 3 is on the younger side, that is for sure. However, with parental help it is a great learning tool, for them!**
- On the calendar sheets I have the child place a weather sticker that matches the daily weather forecast. We used these weather stickers.
- For older children I have them draw the daily weather. We love these twistable crayons, and these erasable colored pencils!

Weather Journal: The Second Page –
- For the sheet that has the weather options along the top – I have the kids tally the daily weather forecast. After drawing or placing their stickers for the day on the monthly calendar page, they mark a tally, in the correct column.
- Once the month over, sit down with them and answer the 6 questions along the bottom.
Having your kids keep a weather journal is a great way to jump start their brains in the morning – teach them responsibility – and so much more. These journals start on March 1st, 2017 and go to February 2018. I printed ours *back-to-back* and used my fellows binding machine to make his own little book. You can also three hole punch it, and use a binder!

This is such a great idea! I love how simple and clean the pages are. I wish you had March 2018 through June 2018 for the duration of the school year. It would be great if you included those, maybe as a supplement. Will you have more pages in February 2018? Will it match this year’s journal for continuity?
