I am all about preventing the summer slide. Even though our days are filled with swimming – playgrounds – baseball – basketball – and just overall fun. I think it is important to take advantage of the fact that my 7 years old loves to learn and enjoys learning new things – and have him do daily work assignments and daily reading.
Because of this, we have a large bucket list of items he wants to “master” over the summer. Not all educational but many are. Some of his bucket list items that are not educational are: Learning how do dive – Going to Lego Land – Going to the movie theater twice – swimming every day – getting through the mine on his PS3 game 🙂
With Greyson entering 2nd grade in the fall, he will be learning how to add double (and beyond) digits. He has gotten a jumpstart on learning this, and thanks to these Double Digit Addition worksheets I whipped up – he absolutely has it mastered. *Next up is learning how to subtract double digits*
I will be honest, at first, these were just plain black and white double-digit addition worksheets. Greyson was getting a lot of them wrong, and making mistakes about what number to carry over. So with a little color coding (The first two numbers you need to add) the addition of the box, and the circle (For carrying over). Just practicing with these worksheets he now has it mastered, and can add any double digit number with our without the color coding – and or square and circle.
