So I think I had outlandish expectations when it came to my fist attempt at couponing. In my head I was picturing this:
I’d have a cart full of food like these Extreme Couponers:
And I would only have to pay around this amount:
Damn you TLC!
So maybe my expectations were not that extreme, but I was hoping to spend around $50.00, and we spent $80.00. However, I did go with my husband and son, so there were about 4-5 purchases that were not on my shopping list. But, that still did not account for the extra $30.00
and…. I hang my head down in embarrassment when I admit that I only saved $5.00 with coupons.
However, the whole concept was a success in my opinion! For the first time, I “Meal Planned” for the week! We have everything we need in the house to have Breakfast, Lunch and yummy Dinners every night this week. and for us? that is HUGE. The icing on the cake is that for the whole week it only cost $80.00. As I admitted before most nights are mad dashes to the grocery store – where we end up spending 30-70 dollars for a single nights dinner.
And for a real eye opener:
This past Saturday I logged into our mint.com account to input our new budget info(more on that later) and I decided to actually use their resources. I did some graphing and saw this:
Yeah. That is 1,130 smack-a-roos spent on food for the month of February. The month is not even over!! That is insane. There are 2.5 of us eating in the house, and seeing that we’ve spent 1,130 dollars on food for the month has sent me into overdrive.
I am going to keep up with the meal planning, and I am going to step up my game with the coupons. Doing so I hope to someday reach the point where my receipts look like the one above!
I am scouring the web for deals and printable coupons. I currently visit:
